Giving the Gift of Love

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

During a parenting seminar, parents were asked to think back to Battlestar Galactica own childhoods and remember someone who really loved us. The leader then asked us what Schuco elektro-radiant remembered about how that person Silver Surfer us their love.

We reported many fond memories including:

  • Spent one-on-one time with me
  • Played card games together
  • Cooked my favorite meal
  • Face lit up when I arrived
  • Asked questions about how things were going for me
  • Sat together and talked
  • Baked 1956 Topps baseball cards cookies with me
  • Went on walks in the park together
  • Taught me how to knit

She pointed out that not a single one of our responses involved material gifts like iPods, Legos, scooters or televisions. What will our children remember when they look back at their childhood? Probably the same type of things we remember… the special times spent together.

We communicate our love to our children when we choose to spend time with them. It’s the things we do together with our children that they will remember the rest of their lives. Long after they have forgotten the very cool toy we bought for their birthday, they will remember the afternoons we spent playing catch in the backyard or baking cookies together.

Challenge yourself to carve out time to do something special with your children. You may want to talk to them about what they would really like to do or you could surprise them. Consider writing this activity on the calendar so that everyone remembers it and something else doesn’t accidentally get scheduled. Remember the gifts that will last the longest are the ones where you spend special time together.

Market Yourself With Business Cards

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

One of the most effective and economical (read really cheap) self-marketing Wizard of oz playset is the use of business cards. You can go online and pick up 500 attractively designed cards for less than twenty-five bucks. Five hundred cards will get you started with your personal networking and will probably last six months to a year. Don’t buy more than 500 to start because you may decide you’d like to change the design a bit once you begin using them.

TIP: Pass up the offers for free business cards. Free cards usually have the name and logo of the printer on the back of the card. They’re free because every card that you hand out advertises the printer. The idea is to promote you, not somebody else.

TIP: Avoid using blank forms that allow you to design and print your own business cards using your computer and printer. The edges of micro-perforated forms will feel rough and homemade when you separate the individual cards. It’s less expensive to use a professional printing company, and you get a clean edge.

If you haven’t yet established your own business or decided what you want to call yourself, get some cards anyway. Have them printed with just your name, address, telephone number, and email address. If you have a Web site, include the URL. The idea is to plant your name in people’s minds, and a simple card can do that when used properly.

How to use business cards

First, the don’ts
Don’t design cards that are oversized, overly cute, or hard to read.
Don’t thrust your card at every warm body that passes by.
Don’t say, “I’m looking for work. Call me.” as you hand over a card.

Instead…
Use your card as a tool for you and a resource for your prospect. Getting your card into the hand of a prospective client or useful contact should be the beginning of a relationship, not the end of a conversation. Successful self-marketers don’t sell themselves or their business; they help others.

TIP: During a conversation, it’s more important to listen than to talk.

If your new acquaintance says he likes Indian food, tell him you know a great Indian restaurant. Take out your card, write the name and location on the back, and hand it to him. If she says she loves foreign movies, jot down the name of a film you’ve seen and liked and hand it to her. If Super Mario going to London next month, write down a museum, shop, or pub you think might interest him. The better the value Shogun Warriors necessarily the lowest prices) the restaurant offers, obscure the film, or offbeat the site you describe, the better.

Find common ground. It’s all right to guide a conversation toward a topic that favors your area of knowledge and to add nearby others to your discussion. Ask for opinions. Encourage the other person(s) to relate personal experiences. Try to lead the conversation, but don’t dominate it. Talk about ideas; don’t make a pitch. Remember: You sell (help) best when you’re not “selling.”

TIP: Never enclose your card with a holiday or birthday card.

TIP: Always enclose your card with any business correspondence.

Brief personally written notes are best when sending greeting cards, and it’s okay to include your business’s name if, and only if, you think it’s necessary for the addressee to identify you. It’s crass and opportunistic otherwise and will be viewed that way by the recipient.

That aside, you can not send out too many cards. Include them with business letters, proposals, invoices, brochures and other collaterals, and always with promotional correspondence. Some of your cards will get into the “wrong” hands (there really aren’t any wrong hands), and some will be duplicates. It doesn’t matter; you’re risking only a penny or less.

Never go anywhere without cards, not even to the laundry room, grocery, or doctor’s office. You never know when you might run into someone whose acquaintance, no matter how brief, could lead you to someone who, in turn, could lead to someone else whom you might be able to help. Cards very often are passed along to others you may never personally meet. Help people help you so that you can help others.

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

Choosing clothes, especially Superboy for Schuco elektro-radiant physically well endowed person is perhaps not that easy. In earlier times women did not have much choice, they had to follow a punishing regimen to lose excess weight if they fancied lingerie that they fancied. Times have changed though. It is an industry which caters to every 1954 Dan-Dee baseball cards Bratz dolls size, be it underclothing or outer wear.

At the click of the mouse one can even find the discount plus size lingerie of any design or make. One need no longer have hour glass figures to fit into seductive lingerie. Which Witch Are You?

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Hey there, Dorothy — are you a Good Witch or a Bad Witch? Is your friend acting like a bitch? Answer these five questions from Samantha’s Twisted Book of Shadows and find out which witch is which?

1. These days I ride:

a) side-saddle

b) a broom

c) a vibrator

d) a vacuum cleaner

e) the bus home alone

2. My familiar is:

a) a dog named Toto

b) a flying monkey I conjured up the other day in my cauldron

c) Sailor Moon

d) several black cats

e) a gay friend

3. My 1950’s toys of a good time is:

a) baking cupcakes for the poor

b) stealing food and reselling it outside the food bank

c) dressing up like Vampira and going to fetish night

d) doing impressions of Margaret Hamilton to amuse my friends

e) being alone so nobody hurts my feelings.

4. My favorite television witch is:

a) Martha Stewart

b) Endora from Bewitched

c) Sabrina the Teenage Witch

d) Heather Locklear

e) Kathie Lee Gifford.

5. My favorite witch movie is:

a) Practical Magic

b) The Craft

c) Rosemary’s Baby

d) Mommie Dearest

e) The Wizard of Oz.

Now analyze your answers below to find out what kind of witch you are!!

A) GLINDA THE GOOD WITCH

If your answers were all “a”, you are a modern Glinda the Good Witch. You visualize all your troubles surrounded in a bubble and floating away from
you, and it works. Congratulations.

1. You’re probably a real tree-hugger and into horses and nature and all
that.

2. You’re just like Dorothy, who, if you’ll recall, was Glinda the Good Witch’s protégée in The Wizard of Oz.

3. You know that all the goodness that you do comes back to you three Micro Machines three by three.

4. You love the way Martha Stewart says, “It’s a good thing” at the end of every segment.

5. You love the idea of a bunch of modern witches mixing up potions from their
kitchen cupboards, wearing headscarves and dancing to music by Stevie Nicks.

B) A WICKED WITCH

If your answers were all “b”, you are just plain eeevil.

1. If you get on a broom and your feet actually lift off the ground, that is truly creepy.

2. A monkey with wings is a dead giveaway.

3. To steal from the poor is pretty unspeakably evil.

4. Endora’s a wicked old crone just like you — only a little prettier.

5. You kind of like that Fairuza kid… you wish you had a daughter just like her.

C) YOU’RE A WITCH WANNABE

If your answers are all “c”, you’re just a wannabe. You’ve bought one of those
do-it-yourself witchcraft books at the local new-age store, and even though
you’ve been following the recipes, havoc is still being wreaked in your
life. Do you think that if a spell actually worked, a real witch would
really give Aurora Frankenstein model secrets of success away in a book that could be had for 10
bucks? Think about it.

1. If all those love spells you do actually worked, you wouldn’t need to be using a vibrator.

2. Dressing like Sailor Moon won’t give you supernatural powers.

3. Dressing in a way that appeals to men empowers men, not you… think again.

4. Statistics in The Toronto Sun recently cited that witchcraft is the No. 1 interest of teenage girls, so if you’re a wannabe, chances are that this is your favorite show.

5. So far you’ve been practicing witchcraft all by yourself. Wouldn’t it be nice to belong to a real coven like Rosemary’s friends?

D) SURPRISE… YOU’RE NOT A WITCH BUT A GAY MAN!

If your answers are all “d”, you’re gay! I know it’s confusing, but it’s true. Gay males love a good wicked female archetype more than life itself.

1. You like to clean; that means you’re gay!

2. Cats are considered to be “gay children”.

3. You also like to do the occasional impression of Joan Crawford.

4. She’s a Goddess in the Office! You wanna be Evil Scheming Manipulative Heather Locklear!

5. You love the scene where Joan beats little Christina with the hanger.

E) YOU’RE A WITCH’S VICTIM

If your answers are all “e”, the only kind of spell you know is a fainting spell. You’re more the kind of person prone to be the victim of witches because you refuse to acknowledge that magic exists. You wouldn’t know what an athame was if you were lying on a slab and it was plunged into your heart (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

1. Witches have cast spells so they get all the men and all the rides home.

2. All the straight males have been bewitched by real witches, so you’re stuck with this gay friend.

3. You are the victim of the many psychic attacks practiced by amateur witchlets out there.

4. You don’t really like Kathie Lee Gifford but for some reason every time she’s on the TV you just can’t stop watching her… it’s like you’re under her spell or something.

6. The Wizard of Oz is the only movie you’ve seen with a real witch in it.

An Edgier Place

Monday, March 16th, 2009

In every house, there are some guests or visitors that want to look at the fixtures. They want to admire and know the story behind the collection or pieces displayed at the home. People like looking and inspecting things; this is an innate behavior of man. He too is also inquisitive and adventurous that sometimes gets them into trouble. In a home, the things inside the glass cabinets or even the collections displayed are carefully checked. If these pieces are to be sold or pawned, they will be scrutinized just to make sure that they are given the correct value.

People love adding things inside their homes, details can move mountains for the house. Furniture that is imported from other countries, the plants which will be grown in the garden or backyard or even the cloth used in making the curtains and bed covers. Individuals want their home to be unique from the others so that it will really stand out. A one-of-a-kind piece is something that will really catch the attention of the visitors. Having metal wall hangings can also add to that completeness of the home and the aura the owners want it to have.

Take for example a doll house; the child may be satisfied with the furniture included when it is bought. But there will come a time that the kid will want to add more things inside it just to jazz it up. She may even be creative enough to make her own line of furniture and other fixtures that will be used in the doll house. There is no harm done if they try. They might find out that they have that talent of creating and making miniature stuffs. Trying is better rather than never getting that chance of discovering the talent you have hidden after all this time.

In a home, especially in each room, people get to put the stuffs that they like Adventure Comics long as it will look good. Paintings are commonly hanged on the walls because it adds color and character to a home. Pictures on frames are also seen in almost every home because they want their visitors to know who the people are living there. There are also some homes that have an altar for them to be reminded of their faith. Other things can be added are mirrors, vases and even sketches. metal wall hangings can be installed to give the room or home a different glow.

The doll house can be considered a representation of one’s dream house. They may not get the house or home that they want; they can still imagine that they are living in one because of this doll house. Pretending to have a better life is one way of getting the frustration out of the system. Sometimes, dreams do come true because of the perseverance of the person.

A dream is like a canvass Sea Wees Our minds paint a picture of what the aspirations of the people are and individuals try to make that dream a reality. One nice thing to do is to really have this dream printed out or sketched out and then framed. In this way, the person is reminded that this is what he wants and perhaps he may strive harder in 1950 Bowman baseball cards to achieve this. This dream print-out is not only a reminder but can also be a 3D wall art which can be admired by guests in the home.

Survival of the Fattest - Or, Surviving Christmas!

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

We were all designed to be fat! I know that’s not what you want to hear, but it’s true. Our ancestors never knew from one day to the next whether it was going to be feast or famine so in the feast times they ate and ate, and put on weight! And in the famine times they had a store of fat to live off!

Of course it helped that they had very active lifestyles. In the feast times they built up muscle and bone as well as fat, so they had well-padded sturdy bodies that were famine resistant.

21st century life demands a different metabolism, as we are now surrounded by feast all the time and the only famine is a self-imposed diet. This goes against all of our cave-person instincts, fasting in the midst of food.

Christmas for many of us genuinely is a feast, so on Christmas day loosen your belt, overindulge and be prepared to feel fat. Only a killjoy will be fasting then. And here are some tips for surviving in non-fat mode up until the winter feast:

* If you love mince pies, don’t buy them until just before the big day. You’ll get them two weeks early and keep them? Who are you kidding? You know you’ll want to taste “just one” and it’s downhill from there. And at nearly 300 calories per pie, you can’t afford it.

* Some of the Christmas treats, e.g. nuts, are healthy, but only if you eat them in tiny quantities. A snack is two Brazil nuts, not the whole bag. Even better, buy the unshelled ones, by the time you get into them you’ll have lost your appetite.

* View with contempt all the sugary treats like the Turkish delight, the candied fruit, and the sugared almonds. They make a fine Dickensian Christmas spread but unless you want a Pickwickian waistline, avoid them. donate my car think you’ll have just one, as once you start you might go for the lot. And then you have to buy more (see mince pies, above).

* If you can’t resist chocolate decorations on the tree, don’t buy them. We haven’t for years. This also includes chocolate advent calendars. The chocolate in them normally tastes like candle wax but that doesn’t put off the dedicated chocoholic. We do make a chocolate Christmas tree (no, it’s not 6ft tall!) and it gets eaten between Christmas and New Year. You can’t sneak bits off it without it being obvious.

* However stressful your relatives are, don’t use food for comfort. Instead, think of imaginative ways you could maul them with Christmas trees*, or invent a game where they have to make a doll’s house out of Christmas cards, or plan ingenious place settings to put irritating relatives next to each other… but don’t eat your way out of aggravation.

Remember it’s meant to be fun. 1958 Topps baseball cards easy on the alcohol, but on the big day relax, sit back and enjoy. Get the silly hat out of the cracker and plan who is best suited to eat the leftovers (hint - it’s not you).

Happy Christmas one and all! For the record… I do not advocate violence against loved ones. However provoking they are.
